Matt Payne Named Newest WestWater Principal

Matt Payne has been named WestWater’s newest Principal effective July 1, 2015.

Matt leads the firm’s Phoenix office, and focuses his practice on water resource development and water asset transactions.  He advises a broad range of private, public, and non-profit sector clients on economic, financial, and strategic issues related to water supply planning and implementation.  In recent years, Matt has been engaged by Arizona’s largest water provider to lead planning and implementation of the most extensive renewable water acquisition program in the United States.  The program has executed nearly $100 million in water transactions, ranging from rotational farm fallowing agreements to acquisition and development of reclaimed water.

For private equity and industrial clients, Matt originates water and wastewater investments, and leads due diligence in support of transactions.  He frequently works as a part of multidisciplinary teams, contributing economic and financial analytical capabilities to water resource and integrated utility planning projects.  Matt holds an M.B.A. from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, and a B.A. in economics from Colorado College.  He has published extensively in industry and peer-reviewed journals.

“We are delighted to recognize the tremendous value that Matt provides to our clients,” says WestWater Research Managing Director Clay Landry.  “Matt embodies the qualities of outstanding client service, integrity, skill, and work ethic that differentiate WestWater from other firms, and enable our team to deliver superior results for clients.  We are excited and fortunate to have him as a partner.”
